TAPE COMP: NOT FEELING THAT FINE ABOUT FALL

Just finished up putting together a new compilation tape of MD/PA/VA bands called 'Not Feeling That Fine About Fall.' Some new bands, some old bands, unreleased songs and B-sides from bands we've put out before.

We did a short run of ten with handmade covers a month or so ago. We'll have another 100 out with 'standardized' art out to the bands and for sale on this site in the coming weeks.

Check out the bands/track list below, and download it. Support all these guys, they are good.

1) Tideland (VA) - The Hex
2) Lilac Daze (MD) - We Never Were
3) Olive Drab (PA) - Slugger
4) New Years (MD) - Every Ounce of Horror
5) Hobis (MD) - Comment, Comment
6) Mumblr (PA) - Somebody Touch Me
7) Eat People (MD) - Punk Rock
8) Dogs Without Borders (MD) - I Do That Good
9) Magic Missile (MD) - Hey Sandy (Polaris)
10) Let's (MD) - The Angle of Your Angle Is About Right
11) Laurel (MD) - wait 5.6 320 test

POP UP LIT SHOP/NEW COMP

Last Thursday we had a table at the Pop-Up Lit Shop, hosted by the EMP Collective and Ink Press at a space in downtown Baltimore. To be honest it was a literary event we schemed our way into because Boat Water was playing, as they often do at these kinds of things. It was a good time. We had a limited reissue of the Let's/Laurel split w/ bonus tracks (available for download on the releases page), the last Plastic Color Model tapes (also for download), the last Wet Brain tapes, a compilation put out by our friends in Ted Nguyent via Self Help Records, and an iPhone 5 w/ a cracked screen.

Publishing Genius, Artichoke Haircut, and Ink Press had tables too and we recommend them as well.

We also had some hand made copies of a new comp we're putting out, 'Not Feeling That Fine About Fall.' You could call it a 'soft release.' 45 minutes of heavy emo bands from the tristate area, plus some b-sides from previous Boys Records stuff. They are coming out in an edition of 100 before the end of Fall, track list/downloads coming soon.

WET BRAIN: TOO MUCH FUN

A few weeks ago we finished 100 copies of Wet Brain's first full-length 'Too Much Fun.' Cool record, appx. 25 minutes of fuzzy surf inspired riot grrl punk from Baltimore.

If you like it messy and aggressive, you can follow them on facebook or on bandcamp.

They just finished a short tour around the East Coast and are generally playing somewhere around town. If you want a copy of the tape contact them or check out a show as we are currently sold out. Keep posted for download links, etc.

New Boatwater Tape: a Soft, bee Loud

Some information on these Boatwater tapes- we dubbed 100 copies of this tape, 50 yellow and 50 purple. Who knows which one you'll get. All the covers are unique and 'hand ripped' out of books and magazines. The album is an hour long, broken into two sections. Members of Kid Tiger play on it.
Some color - the record sounds kind of like a warm fuzzy place. The cassette tape format allows the listener to turn the volume up while the music compresses. It can be listened to with eyes open or closed.

Boxelders Puzzle Session Pt. 1 "The Gardener" from Boxelders Music on Vimeo.

Dudes in the band Boxelders are recording performances in their house in front of a massive puzzle that will be lacquered and framed at some point in the future. Until then, they will be updating weekly with new songs/covers/musical collaborations. This is a part of their content-heavy social networking campaign that has been proven to be effective by similar groups in the second decade of the 21st century.

Poetry by an albatross

The poet who calls himself An Albatross also has a real human name. Boys Records 'Press' is going to put out a small collection of his poems in the near future. At that time more information about his identity/body of work may or may not become available. Below is a selection of the poems that will be featured.

Thoughts on Maggie Cheung

in “Irma Vep”

Several years after

Assayas

cast Maggie Cheung

as herself

in “Irma Vep”

he married her.

If it had been

me

I wouldn't have

waited more than several days

and there would be

statues

built to commemorate

our

glorious

love.

Miss

You make me want to

learn guitar

so I can

play “I Can Hear Music”

to you

every night.

Redirect

Just so you know

half of the poems I have written about

girls

have in fact been written about

you.

The ones that were not written about

you,

though,

contain sentiments that I am happy to

redirect.

One Bored Night, on a Cruise Ship – Drunk Poems

I ate too much seafood

so my asshole burns,

and conversation with you,

(pretty Philipino girl)

nice as it may be,

will go nowhere,

physically, emotionally, or spiritually.

The less your friend talks,

the more interesting she seems.

But she probably is just as

disconnected

her surroundings as I am,

and she probably has romanticized her solitude as well.

Consequently,

I think that it's time I headed up that dusty trail;

entailing:

reading Borges,

ordering a fruit and cheese plate from room service,

and maybe jerking off in the bathroom.

Less is More

Someday

I am going to find myself

in a relationship.

At that point,

half of the art in my life

will lose meaning

and the other half

will gain more.

Magic Missile Releases Songs from Unanticipated Full Length

Full Length Samples by Murdermagicmissile

Magic Missile went into the studio in late August to work on their full length with Travis from Ted Nguyent. Here is approximately half of it. They are trying to finish it by the end of the year.

They are playing the second weekend in October at an Ethiopian restaurant in DC as part of a music festival where the gimmick is that all the shows are in Ethiopian restaurants.
